Supreme Court to Address PIL on Online Gambling Disguised as E-Sports

The Supreme Court will hear a Public interest litigation in India regarding the regulation of Online gambling disguised as Esports on October 17, highlighting critical legal interpretations.

• A bench led by Chief Justice B R Gavai will review a PIL on October 17 concerning the regulation of Online gambling under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025.
• Lawyer Virag Gupta, representing the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, argued for a coordinated approach across the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and other ministries regarding Gambling laws.
• The plea requests the union ministries to harmonize interpretations of laws affecting Online gambling across the States and union territories of India, impacting potential revenue and compliance.
