Telesat Acquires Land in Timmins for Next-Gen LEO Satellite Network Hub

Telesat has acquired land in Timmins to establish a Landing Station for its next-gen LEO satellite network, enhancing telecommunications connectivity in Northern Ontario.

• On October 16, 2025, Telesat announced the purchase of a land plot on Laforest Road from the City of Timmins for its satellite operations.
• The site will function as a Landing Station, linking Telesats advanced LEO satellite network, Telesat Lightspeed, to terrestrial Points of Presence in Northern Ontario.
• This initiative aims to improve telecommunications infrastructure, enabling enhanced connectivity for both businesses and residents, including access to terrestrial television services.
